Spyro Opens Up on If Collaborations With Davido, Mayorkun Boosted His Career
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Singer Spyro has shared a heartfelt account of his struggles in the music industry, revealing that after collaborating with music stars Davido and Mayorkun, he expected a career setback.
Speaking during an interview on HipTV’s “Trending”, Spyro said he believed his breakthrough had arrived when the song featuring Davido and Mayorkun became popular.
However, he said that when his song gained traction, he was suddenly forgotten, and his former collaborators became unreachable.
Speaking in an interview on Hiptv Trending, Spyro recalled feeling devastated, often breaking down in tears.
“I had a song back then, and I had Davido and Mayorkun on it. I thought my life was about to change,” he recalled. “The song came out and it was big, but suddenly everything went back down. They stopped picking up my calls. I’d sit on the staircase and cry.”
Spyro described the experience as emotionally devastating, admitting there were moments he felt abandoned by those he once worked closely with.
He also took a swipe at some gospel artists, accusing them of prioritising money over genuine faith.
He, however, commended singer Tems for her consistency and strength, calling her a powerful role model for young women in the music industry.
“She’s really talented and has remained true to herself. That’s the kind of example we need,” he added.
“People who claim to be gospel ministers are just artists. They are just in the business to make money. They’re just like us in the Afrobeat industry. Then there’s a lot of pressure on female artists. Tems is holding out decently. One of the biggest in the world. She has it together, we should put Tems out there for the world to see, for our girls to look up to as role models”, he said.
