Singer, Wande Coal Advises Rising Artistes
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Nigerian singer and songwriter Wande Coal has posed a pointed question to aspiring musicians about their readiness to enter the music industry.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he wrote:
“Are you sure you really want to do this music business? You must be very sure oooo.”
Echoing his concern, rapper Odumodublvck shared a more detailed piece of advice, cautioning emerging artists against rushing into record label deals—particularly advances—before their music is industry-ready.
He warned that accepting advances too early can trap artists in overwhelming debt and stifle their growth.
“Dear upcoming artist, if you know your music is not ripe, stay away from an advance. You do not want to be owing an organisation so much money. You will die a debtor, please heed to my advice. Be patient and work hard till you are ready, please,” he wrote on X.
Both artists emphasized the importance of preparation, patience, and artistic development before fully diving into the business side of music.
