Ahead of September 26 Nigerian Union of Journalists NUJ Lagos Election, Dr Qasim Akinreti, has promised impactful projects and improved welfare for members.
TheConscience reports that Akinreti gave this assurance as the campaign train for his reelection continued on Tuesday with a Press Conference.
At the event which had many NUJ chapel officers and excos, Dr Akinreti highlighted the scorecard of his administration in the last three years, reeling out several projects and programs done in collaboration with government and corporate organizations for the upliftment of the NUJ Lagos.
Tagged “Consolidation 2020”, Dr Akinreti said he was seeking the mandate of the members in collaboration with team members including Raymond Tedunjaye of New Nigerian Newspaper as Secretary, Iyabo Wale-Eri of NTA Lagos, for the post of Financial Secretary and Isaac Ayodele of Nation Newspaper, as Auditor.

Dr Alinreti who emphasised that the NUJ Lagos election was not a do or die affairs listed projects including the NUJ Secretariat at Alausa, Ikeja; reallocation of Abarenland to over 1700 members, NUJ Badagry Community Radio Project, and welfare of members like payment of hospital bills, surgeries, drugs and academic pursuits and more.
Other highlighted achievements included purchase of land for agriculture at Kobape Ogun State, retrieval of light house NUJ property, payment of dividends to chapels, presentation of 18 seater bus to journalists International school, Arepo, investment in Treasury premiums after 12 years and payment of backlog of insurance premiums amongst others.
Akinreti insisted that he will continue to uphold the true tenets of the pen profession as well as global best practices while uncompromising integrity, accountability, welfarism, investment and human capacity building will continue to be the union’s practice under his watch.

The NUJ Lagos Chairman candidate expressed gratitude to many corporate organizations that support the union including Dangote, BUA, NIMASA, Nestle, MAN, NPA, Nigeria Breweries, Lafarge, NPA and Lagos State government.
He appealed to all members to vote for him enmasse in the forthcoming NUJ Lagos election to afford him the privilege to consolidate on the achievements of the last three years, improve the game and achieve greater exploits.
