EFCC, Nigerian anti-graft agency's Official billboard

Some Nigerians have reacted angrily against EFCC over indiscriminate arrest and illegal profiling of young men as internet fraudsters.

TheConscience reports that the citizens blasted the operatives and authorities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC for sensationalising the indiscriminate arrest and illegal parade of young Nigerian men, describing it as wicked and unfair.

While lamenting on social media, the citizens condemned the EFCC and its operatives for being fond of rounding up young men based on flamboyant dressing and ostentatious lifestyle and labeling them Yahoo Boys in a fashion similar to the now disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squard, SARS now FSARS.

They maintained that it is unjust to parade suspects needlessly when there are no established cases of crimes against them in a competent court of law. They charged the EFCC to focus on prosecuting diligently rather than hurriedly parading ‘innocent’ young men as fraudsters.

Tweeting with @Uncle_virus1, a Nigerian reacted to the recent arrest of suspected internet fraudsters saying, “Suspected?? No evidence Nothing nothing, This is the level you guys have been reduced to. Soon chaos and violence will befall on you guys Cuz you have lost your integrity for petty arrests. While the big fish are your bosses Congrats”.

@junglem31520302 said “Southern YOUTHS in foreign nations can’t enjoy peace of mind, liberty & freedom doing the same thing whilst the ones in Nigeria are subjected to constant harassment, intimidation, abuse & violation by tribal security agents. Never. What is really “yahoo boy” What makes one a “yahoo boy” The use of Iphones & computers? Is this the myopic level Nigeria has descended? Is every one now thinking in the direction of criminal minded & primitive EFCC officials by calling people “yahoo boys”?. Hate speech.”
@rexyplus said “If they are suspected, why putting their pictures here? This is very inhumane of

@officialEFCC

Allow them to be convicted before flaunting their images here.”

@GWatchWorld said Good job. but what about the looted funds that was relooted by Magu. Arrest CBN Governor so that he can give acct of the covid 19 funds.”
The EFCC is the government agency saddled with investigating and prosecuting financial related crimes and frauds in Nigeria. Its former chairman, Ibrahim Magu was recently suspended and currently undergoing trial for allegedly relooting looted funds and corruption proceeds.
