“Who are you?” Mr. Macaroni, Others Blast Toke Benson, Lagos Commissioner for Allegedly Slapping Citizen
The social media has continued to burn with outrage and shock as many including Nigerian actor, comedian and activist, Mr. Macaroni unleashed a scathing critique of Mrs Toke Benson, the Lagos State’s Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
This follows the release of a viral video on Thursday showing the commissioner while threatening to destroy a man’s phone and moving in a manner that suggested slapping the citizen.
The video has become the talk of the town, sparking outrage and disbelief among Nigerians who view the commissioner’s actions as an abuse of power.
Mr. Macaroni didn’t hold back, using his comedic flair to roast the commissioner mercilessly as he took to Twitter with a barrage of fiery tweets.
His tweets, laced with humour and biting sarcasm, painted a vivid picture of a public servant who has strayed far from her duty to serve the people, casting a dark shadow over her public service image.
“Is this what we’ve come to?” he quipped, adding that her behaviour is a disgrace to the office she holds. With multiple angry tweets, he not only highlighted the absurdity of the incident but also called for greater accountability among public officials.
As the footage circulated, outrage spread like wildfire, with countless other Nigerians expressing their disdain and demanding accountability.
Mr. Macaroni wrote, “Dear Mrs Toke Benson, who do you think you are that you can’t be recorded?? Ok. Commissioner? And so what?? You even have the temerity to ask ‘who is paying your salary.’ Is it your money? A public servant moving like a Dictator. Saying you will break a citizen’s phone and actually moving to do so?? Outrageous!!!”
Mr. Macaroni also criticized the entitlement displayed by public officials. He further wrote, “And I heard another lady asking ‘do you know who you are talking to.’ Who are you? Who is she? Who are all of you gangan??? My goodness!!! It seems once you hold a political office in Nigeria you become Lord and Master and all Citizens must become your slaves??”
The incident has fueled conversations on social media, with many users expressing disappointment in the commissioner’s conduct and calling for accountability. Critics argue that such behavior undermines the trust citizens place in public officials.
However, the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism reacted to the viral video, claiming the commissioner didn’t slap anyone, and rather it was a team member of the commissioner who got assaulted.
The video has continued to generate widespread fury and disbelief, with demands for improved conduct from public officers.
