Zone 2 Police Command Responds to Viral Arrest Video of Ms. Mercy Attababa
The Nigerian police Zone 2 Command Headquarters, led by AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, has addressed the public’s concerns regarding the conduct of officers during the arrest of Ms. Mercy Attababa, which has garnered attention through a viral video.
In an official statement released by CSP Ayuba T. Umma, the command clarified the circumstances surrounding the arrest.

It said, “It was initiated based on a petition from Mr. Emeka Okoye, who accused Ms. Attababa and others of assault and making threats against his life. According to Mr. Okoye, a group of armed individuals, believed to be affiliated with cult activities, invaded his home on July 13th and 14th, 2025, instilling fear for his and his family’s safety, prompting their relocation.”
The police stated that after conducting inquiries and collecting Ms. Attababa’s statement, she was subsequently released to the Welfare Director of the Lagos State University Student Union Government. AIG Fayoade has instructed that the case be escalated to the Commissioner of Police in Lagos for a thorough investigation and reporting.
The Zone 2 Command reassured the public that the officers involved in the incident have been identified, and the necessary actions will be taken against them. It also emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice is served transparently.
