Trump Declares He Won’t Endorse Zelensky’s Stance On The War
Trump Threatens To Cut Military Aid After Tense White House Meeting with Zelensky
Donald Trump stated on Monday that the United States would “not put up with” Volodymyr Zelensky’s rhetoric any longer, following a heated exchange at the White House over the weekend. Trump’s comments came as he prepared to meet with his top advisors to discuss next steps after a tense meeting with the Ukrainian president.
“This is the worst statement Zelensky could have made, and America will not tolerate it much longer,” Trump wrote on social media, referring to Zelensky’s remarks that the end of the war with Russia was still far off. Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of deliberately prolonging the conflict as long as he had American support.
Trump also criticized European leaders who met with Zelensky in London over the weekend, saying that their statements suggesting they could not handle the crisis without US support weakened the international stance against Russia. “Not a great statement to make when showing strength against Russia. What were they thinking?” Trump remarked.
The broadside came after a highly charged meeting at the White House on Friday, during which Trump and Vice President JD Vance raised their voices, accusing Zelensky of being ungrateful for US military aid. Zelensky had pushed for US security guarantees as part of any potential truce with Russia. Tensions escalated, and Zelensky was reportedly told to leave the White House, leaving a key agreement on preferential access to Ukraine’s mineral resources unsigned.
Trump is now consulting with his senior advisors on Monday to determine the next steps regarding US involvement in the conflict, according to National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. It was reported that Trump was considering halting all military aid to Ukraine in light of the disagreement.
Meanwhile, European leaders who had offered to send peacekeepers to help secure a ceasefire met in London on Sunday, hoping to resolve the dispute. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke by phone with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Monday to discuss the situation. Rubio assured Lammy that the United States remains committed to negotiating an end to the Ukraine-Russia conflict, and will continue collaborating with the UK on efforts toward peace.
