IGP Directs DIG Operations To Proceed To Plateau
In response to the series of attacks and killings that have plagued several communities in Plateau State since March 28, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate and comprehensive deployment of police tactical assets to the affected areas.
A statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized that this action reflects the Force’s determination to restore peace, ensure the safety and security of all residents, and bring the perpetrators of these heinous crimes to justice.
The statement further explained that the IGP has specifically tasked the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Operations (DIG DOPs), Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to lead and coordinate this vital intervention. This will involve significant reinforcements, including additional highly trained tactical personnel, state-of-the-art drones for enhanced surveillance, Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), units of the Police Mobile Force, helicopters, and specialized platoons from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
These resources will be strategically deployed to conduct special operations aimed at effectively curbing the persistent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) and surrounding communities.
In the past week, more than 50 people were killed across five communities, and over 300 homes were destroyed in attacks by suspected herdsmen.
Governor Caleb Muftwang condemned the violence on Tuesday, revealing that bandits have taken control of 64 communities in his state.
“These communities that were recently attacked had already endured similar assaults in 2023. They rebuilt and showed remarkable resilience,” the governor stated. “The Ruwi community, which was first attacked, lost 17 people in 2023 but recovered and rebuilt, demonstrating the strength and perseverance of the people.”
