Shallipopi Vows To Boycott Next Headies Awards Edition
THECONSCIENCENG reports that Afrobeats artist Shallipopi has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the 17th edition of The Headies awards, vowing not to attend future editions of the ceremony.
The singer, who won Best Rap Single for his track “Cast,” revealed that he was only given a handshake on stage, as the organisers reportedly ran out of award plaques.
“The next one, if una see me, make I bend,” he said, signaling his intention to boycott future events.
Although he lost the Next Rated category to Odumodublvck, Shallipopi’s frustration appeared to be more about the lack of proper recognition for the award he did receive.
Taking to social media, he distanced himself from the rap genre and questioned the decision to name him Best Rap Single winner.
“I no go even lie for una sef, I no want that award. Give the real rappers wey dey the category. Me, Shallipopi, I no be rapper,” he wrote.
