Court Approves FG’s Request For Shielded Witnesses In Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resumed on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Presiding Judge, Justice James Omotosho, granted the Federal Government’s request for prosecution witnesses to testify behind screens, citing the sensitive nature of the case and security concerns.
During the proceedings, lead Defence Counsel, Kanu Agabi, informed the court that his legal team comprised 22 members. However, the judge ruled that only 13 lawyers, as previously listed, would be allowed to participate.
The defence team has also been bolstered by the addition of four Senior Advocates of Nigeria: Audu Nunghe, Joseph Akubo, Emeka Etiaba, and Onyechi Ikpeazu.
Government counsel, Adegboyega Awolowo, confirmed that an ex parte application had earlier been filed to allow protected testimony from witnesses.
