Lagos governor announces schools resumption

In line with plans for gradual schools resumption, the Lagos State government has announced classes of students to resume on September 21.

This is as the state government commenced a gradual but strategic phase of schools resumption and opening of all academic institutions in view of the global covid-19  pandemic and public health and safety concerns for students across the state in line with global and national strategy on phased schools resumption.

Lagos State schools are currently opened to only senior secondary school students in SS3 who just finished writing their WAEC exams last week, TheConscience reports.

The Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo has confirmed that public schools are to now to open for more students on the 21st of September beginning with the current JSS3 and SS2 students.

Lagos governor announces schools resumption

TheConscience reports that the Head of Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi announced this development on Sunday, September 13.

Abayomi said the state will utilize a gradual approach to getting students back for schools resumption.

Excerpts of his statement reads:

“This phased approach to opening will enable public schools to meet COVID-19 social distance rules and safety protocols and will help us watch the behaviour of the pandemic as we gradually open up our schools.

“The present JSS 3 and SSS 2 students in public schools in the State are to resume classes from Monday, 21st of September, 2020.

“The resumption will permit the present JSS 3 students who are already in an exit class to revise and get adequately prepared for their forthcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination organised by the Lagos State Examination Board and scheduled between Tuesday, 6th and Monday, 12th of October, 2020.

“The resumption will also afford the present SSS 2 students an opportunity to prepare effectively for their transition to SSS 3. The scheduled dates and venues for Entrance Examination into Lagos State Model Colleges will soon be announced by the State Examination Board.

“For classes that are yet to resume, we are assuring parents that announcements for opening the other classes will occur as soon as we are certain of their safety. In the meantime, the unopened classes in public schools will continue their lessons on our various distance learning platforms while the next phase for physical schools resumption will be announced in due course. ”
