Gov Dauda Denies Dumping PDP For APC
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has dismissed rumors suggesting he plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirming his loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement addressing the speculation, Governor Lawal described himself as a “bona fide member” of the PDP and urged the public to ignore what he called fake news spread by political detractors.
“I am Dauda Lawal, a bona fide member of the.Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Disregard the fake news from detractors determined to distract us from the RESCUE MISSION we have embarked on,” he said.
Governor Lawal emphasized that his focus remains firmly on fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Zamfara, rather than engaging in political distractions.
The clarification comes in response to widespread speculation suggesting that the Governor was considering a defection to the APC.
Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of six kidnap victims in a separate development.
Police spokesman, Deputy Superintendent of Police Yazid Abubakar, announced the successful operation in a statement issued on Friday.
According to Abubakar, the victims were rescued during a coordinated search-and-rescue effort launched after a suspicious vehicle—an ash-colored Peugeot 206—was discovered abandoned along the Anka-Gummi Road.
“The breakthrough occurred on April 16, 2025, at about 1:45 PM, when a joint patrol team comprising police operatives and Community Protection Guards (CPG) noticed the vehicle by the roadside,” the statement read.
“Suspecting foul play, the operatives initiated a search operation which led to the safe rescue of six kidnap victims.”
The rescued individuals were identified as Hon. Bakiru Masama, Dan Masama, Aminu Bukkuyum, Ahmad Masama, Umar Jema, and Shehu Mulluwa. All six have since been reunited with their families.
The Zamfara State Police Command reiterated its commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
