Oluyede Appointed New CDS As Tinubu Sacks Other Service Chiefs
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that President Bola Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff to replace General Christopher Musa.
According to a statement signed on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the reshuffle is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
Other key appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
The statement noted that all appointments take immediate effect.
President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other departing service chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership.
“The President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expresses his most profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other Service Chiefs for their patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” the statement read.
“He charges the newly appointed Service Chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
General Oluyede, who now assumes office as Chief of Defence Staff, was appointed acting Chief of Army Staff in December 2024 following the death of the late Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
