THECONSCIENCE NG that As preparation for the 2027 general elections intensify, the Labour Party (LP) has confirmed that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, will once again be its presidential candidate.

Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the LP, finished third behind President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on the party’s strategy for 2027, the LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, expressed confidence in Obi’s candidacy, stating that the ruling party should expect strong competition.

“Tinubu is not just going to have it easy in 2027. We are coming back with Peter Obi to show them how serious we are,” Arabambi said during an interview.

Addressing recent internal disputes, Arabambi dismissed concerns about a leadership crisis within the party. He also criticized actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo for resigning from the party, calling his exit a relief.

“His resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore,” he stated, accusing Okonkwo of secretly working for President Tinubu and the APC.

The LP spokesman insisted that the party remains strong despite attempts by detractors to undermine it.

“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. Labour Party is not going into extinction. That is just a figment of the imagination of our opponents,” he added.

The party remains focused on its goal of challenging the current administration in the next election cycle.
