PDP Affirms Sunday Udeh-Okoye as National Secretary
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed former National Youth Leader, Sunday Udeh-Okoye, as the party’s National Secretary.
This decision was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday, signed by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba. The NWC stated that it is bound by the ruling of the Court of Appeal on the matter.
According to the statement, the party will submit its resolution affirming Udeh-Okoye’s appointment to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other relevant bodies, in compliance with the appellate court’s judgment.
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at its meeting on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, extensively reviewed the memo dated February 11, 2025, presented by the Acting National Chairman regarding the office of the National Secretary,” the statement read.
The NWC carefully examined supporting documents, including:
- The declaratory judgment of the High Court of Enugu
- The judgment of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, affirming Udeh-Okoye’s appointment
- Legal opinions from Dr. Kabiru T. Turaki (SAN) and the PDP’s National Legal Adviser
Following this review, the NWC unanimously recognized and confirmed Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary, in full compliance with the Court of Appeal’s ruling. The committee also affirmed that no superior court judgment or order contradicts this decision.
The party has commenced the process of transmitting its resolution to INEC and other relevant authorities for official recognition.
The PDP expressed gratitude to its leaders, members, and stakeholders for their commitment to the rule of law. It reaffirmed its dedication to its constitution, democratic values, and the well-being of Nigerians.
