Fashina Shakiru at 40: A life worthy of emulation

By: Oladele Dada

According to a Philosopher, Sir Washington, he said and I quote, ” success is not measured by the height but the obstacles encountered in its attainment ‘ this has found expression in the life of this veteran Journalist, Fashina Shakiru.

His emergence to the public glare has been a result of his tenacity and commitment. One thing that is worthy of Fashina Shakiru, is his tenacity and open-mindedness. Of course, he is always ready to learn and this has endeared many people to him.

‘Shakky’ as I fondly call him, is down to earth, caring and benevolent. On many occasions, he has experimented this. Yes, he could go out of his way to satisfy you, especially when he knows it is in line of his job. He is very sociable and very accommodating. He has time for friends or associates.

Having him in the space of journalism is an interesting thing for he has been a figure to reckon with. Not only has he been excellent in his career but he has also created a niche for himself. Noted for his community reportage, he has made a name for himself.

As a Community Reporter, he has show cased and promoted so many communities to the world. Popular among them are: Amuwo Odofin Local Government, Ikorodu Local Government, Igbogbo – Baiyeku Local Government and Lagos Island Local Government to mention but a few.

As a Reporter, he has conducted numerous interviews that are educative, informative and above all, of public interest. Shakiru Fashina’s acumen in journalism is second to none which has attracted him to the creme de la creme in the society.

One of which is Ikomodina, Chairman, LAPGM, Branch C, Mile 2, Amuwo Odofin Local Government. Ikomodina, in his speech to him affirmed that Shakiru has not only performed his duties excellently as a Media Aide, yet he his a reliable and committed staff. ” Since,

Shakiru has been his Media Aide and he has been instrumental to show-casing Mile 2 and it’s activities to the world”, Ikomodina said.

Shakiru Fashina who hailed from Lagos Island has not only grown through thick and thin in life but has charted a way for himself. Through determination he has fought through to attain a successful and enviable life even at 40. Indeed, one can wrap up as ” Blessed at 40”.

He attended the Prestigious University of Ibadan, where he obtained his two degrees; Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Master Degree in Public Administration. He is also an alumnus of Nigeria Broadcast Academy (formerly FRCN Training g School), Lagos.

Above all, it is worthy of note, and very interesting that Fashina Shakiru is a family man to core and he is married to his heartthrob… and are blessed with children.
