Cleaner Returns ₦4.8m Mistakenly Paid Into Her Account
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that a woman identified as Faiza Abdulkadir, working as a cleaner in Maiduguri, Borno State, has returned the sum of ₦4.8 million that was mistakenly paid into her bank account.
The remarkable act of honesty drew national attention, especially as it came from someone earning a modest living. Faiza’s decision has since been widely praised as an extraordinary display of integrity.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) commended Faiza in a public statement released on Wednesday, describing her action as a shining example of moral courage in the face of temptation.
“She suddenly found herself in a situation that put her integrity to the test,” the NOA stated. “Yet, instead of holding on to the money, she chose integrity over temptation.”
The agency highlighted the significance of Faiza’s actions in a society where economic hardship often drives individuals to make desperate choices. It noted that such honesty is both rare and deeply admirable.
“In a world where poverty often pressures people into compromise, her courage reminds us that true wealth is not measured in money, but in character,” the NOA wrote on its official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Faiza’s story has since gone viral on social media, with many Nigerians applauding her for demonstrating that honesty and moral values still exist, even in the face of poverty.
The NOA concluded by stating that her actions serve as a powerful reminder that honesty still shines bright in Nigeria — and that such light will never go unnoticed.
