
Bandits Abduct Family Of 3, Kill Vigilante In Katsina Attack
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that suspected bandits attacked Unguwar Filin Canada in Katsina City in the early hours of Tuesday, abducting three family members and fatally shooting a local vigilante.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the attack occurred around 3:00 AM on August 26, 2025. Armed assailants stormed the residence of 33-year-old Anas Ahmadu, kidnapping him, his wife, and their daughter, Jidda Anas.
During the attack, 25-year-old Abdullahi Muhammad, a member of the local vigilante group and resident of the same area, was shot and killed while trying to intervene. The attackers fled the scene before police arrived.
Upon receiving the distress report, the Divisional Police Officer in Katsina swiftly led a response team to the area, restoring calm and initiating an investigation to track down the perpetrators.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, alongside the command’s management team, Area Commander (Metro), DPOs, and the Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
The Police Commissioner has since deployed additional personnel and resources to aid in the immediate rescue of the victims and apprehension of the criminals.
The police command urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via the emergency line. Authorities also appealed to anyone with relevant information to assist the investigation, assuring that all tips will be treated with strict confidentiality.
Meanwhile, Nigerian Tribune notes that the incident coincided with a visit by the Chief of Army Staff to Katsina. The visit followed a separate tragic attack in Malumfashi Local Government Area, where bandits stormed a mosque, killing over 50 worshippers.
