Army, NDLEA Arrest fake Police Officers With Over 1,100 Blocks of Cannabis
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), have arrested two men posing as police officers while trafficking a large quantity of cannabis in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, conducted under Operation Lafiya Nakowa, took place at Takum Junction, where two Toyota Hilux vehicles were intercepted. Inside the vehicles, troops discovered 1,134 blocks of suspected cannabis.
According to Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, the arrest was based on credible intelligence.
The suspects were identified as 71-year-old Monday George, a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), and 41-year-old Ezeugo Destiny Uche. Both men were wearing mobile police uniforms at the time of their arrest. Preliminary investigations confirmed that neither is currently a serving officer.
Authorities believe the drugs originated from Akure in Ondo State and were en route to Adamawa State before being intercepted in Taraba.
Another group of suspects, also traveling in a Hilux vehicle, reportedly fled the scene upon sighting the troops, abandoning their vehicle. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
The arrested individuals and seized drugs have been handed over to the NDLEA office in Wukari for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commander of the 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the successful joint operation and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the region. He also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
