Actress Bukunmi Oluwasina Slams Netizens For Mocking Troubled Celebs
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Actress and filmmaker Bukunmi Oluwasina has urged social media users to stop mocking public figures, especially women, during their low moments.
In a series of Instagram posts, the award-winning actress condemned the growing culture of online cruelty and “mockery disguised as moral correction”.
“What I see as mean,” she wrote, “is people making a mockery of someone in her lowest moment just because she once showed off or lived large. Some people find happiness in convincing others they’re happy it’s therapeutic for them. So why blame them when life happens?”
Oluwasina, known for Ayomi and Citation, said celebrity lifestyles strongly influence young people both positively and negatively. While some imitate harmful habits such as smoking because their idols glamorise them, others are inspired to value love and family by observing famous couples who publicly celebrate their partners.
She noted: “It’s beautiful when fans decide to become better spouses after watching their favourite stars express love openly. That influence should be appreciated, not condemned.”
However, she reminded followers that no one lives a perfect life. “Nobody posts their struggles or failures online,” she said. “People learn through their own mistakes. Celebrities are human too. Life doesn’t come with a manual.”
The actress also questioned why many idolise strangers on Instagram instead of drawing inspiration from family members. “You left your parents, your real role models, to look up to strangers online and now you blame them when they fall short?” she asked.
Oluwasina further argued that envy fuels online cruelty. “Resentment is like setting yourself on fire and waiting for others to choke on the smoke,” she said, advising users to follow more constructive content on education and business rather than flaunt-filled pages.
In a direct message to women, she appealed for empathy: “Stop waiting for your fellow woman to fail. If that gives you joy, you need help. Be kind. It costs nothing.”
