Suspected Kidnappers Abduct 7 Travellers In Kwara

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that seven travelers were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Obbo-Aiyegunle Road in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State over the weekend.

According to the reports , the victims were passengers traveling from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, to Offa town in the Offa Local Government Area when their vehicle was ambushed.

The attackers reportedly blocked the road and, at gunpoint, intercepted a Sienna bus operated by Olumoh Bus, a transport company based in Offa. The vehicle bears the registration number KW FFA 50 XD.

During the roughly 20-minute operation, the gunmen forced seven passengers into the nearby forest, leaving behind three children on the bus.

Mr. Mukaila Ogunlade, Secretary of the transport company, confirmed the incident. “The incident truly happened. In fact, we just returned from Osi Police Station. The bus initially left the park with five passengers, but the oldest of the children told us that two more people joined during the trip. As it stands, we are searching for seven missing persons,” he stated.

Ogunlade added that the incident occurred in an area recently plagued by rising security concerns.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adekimi Ojo, also confirmed the abduction. In a statement issued on Sunday in Ilorin and signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the police confirmed that the three children had been safely rescued.

“One of the children provided information that enabled the police to contact her guardian. All three rescued children have since been reunited with their families,” the statement read.

The commissioner assured that efforts to locate and rescue the remaining victims are ongoing, stating: “The Kwara Command has intensified efforts through discreet investigation, intelligence gathering, and continuous bush combing operations to apprehend the culprits and ensure the victims’ safe return.”

He urged anyone with relevant information to contact the police via the established channels, reiterating the Command’s commitment to public safety and security.
