Police Begin Manhunt For Killers Of Miyyeti Allah Chief In Kwara
THECONSCIENCE NG report that the Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Idris Sakaina, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state, by gunmen.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Saturday, when the MACBAN leader was shot outside his residence in the Oke Ose area of Ilorin, the state capital.
In a statement, the police spokesperson for the state, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the killing. She assured the public that the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is actively working on the case.
“CP Victor Olaiya, psc(+), assures that the perpetrators will be brought to justice and urges the public to remain calm and share any useful information,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated. “Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act, and we are hopeful that they will be caught.”
No arrests have been made as of yet, and the motive behind the killing remains unclear. The police, however, emphasized their commitment to solving the case and bringing the suspects to justice.
Muhammed Abdullahi, the Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Inter-Community Relations (Fulani), also confirmed the death of the MACBAN leader.
Reports indicate that the assailants ambushed Sakaina, shooting him at close range before fleeing the scene, leaving him in a pool of blood.
Sakaina, 32, was a former Special Assistant to the Chairman of Moro Local Government Area and a youth leader of the Fulani community in Kwara State.
In a statement, AbdulAzeez Muhammed, the state secretary of MACBAN, expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “With great sadness, we announce the tragic passing of our esteemed Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Kwara State Chapter, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, who was killed by unknown gunmen yesterday at his Oke Ose residence around 10 p.m. He is survived by two wives and six children,” Muhammed said.
