FCID Alagbon Bursts Syndicate Involved in Pirating Toyin Abraham’s Latest Movie, Announces Successful Crackdown on Other Criminal Cases

By THECONSCIENCEng

THECONSCIENCEng reports that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, has made significant strides in recent weeks, successfully investigating and cracking down on several high-profile criminal cases.

These cases, some of which are of public and internal security interest, have highlighted the dedication and effectiveness of the department in combating crime.

This development was announced during a press briefing today at the FCID office in the state.

While speaking at the briefing, the PRO, ASP Aminat Mayegun said,  “One of the major breakthroughs achieved by the FCID Annex is the bursting of a syndicate involved in Conspiracy, Infringement on Intellectual Property, Piracy, and Cyber-related Crimes.

“This syndicate was responsible for the unlawful utilisation of the cyberspace to broadcast Toyin Abraham’s movie titled ‘Malaika’.

On January 11, 2024, popular actress Mrs. Toyin Abraham and Seun Olayemi, the co-producers of the movie, filed a criminal complaint.

She added: They alleged that their latest movie, ‘Malaika’, was criminally pirated and unlawfully uploaded on various websites for free viewing, infringing on their intellectual rights and causing them financial losses.

“Following the petition, a joint investigation involving the Special Investigation Units of the Anti-Fraud and Cybercrime Sections of the Department was launched.

“Through the deployment of unique intelligence and cybercrime assets, the FCID Annex was able to narrow down the websites involved in the crime to www.noregret.com.ng and www.naijajoy.com.ng.

“The investigation led to the arrest of the principal suspect, Kehinde Iyanda, who confessed to his involvement in the online piracy of ‘Malaika’ and other movies.

“Additionally, Adebiyi Sodiq and Adekunle Segun were also arrested for their roles in the syndicate.”

In another case, the FCID Annex successfully uncovered a criminal syndicate involved in forgery, extortion, and counterfeiting of the Nigeria Police Character Certificate.

The operation resulted in the arrest of Chinedu Agbosim, the owner of the shop where the counterfeited documents were produced, as well as Mariam Dauda and Ebighose Anderson, the computer operators involved in the illegal activities.

Furthermore, the FCID Annex recovered a stolen vehicle and apprehended the suspects involved. Ibrahim Babangida, the main suspect, confessed to stealing the vehicle and intending to sell it through his contacts. Wilson Onobukoko and Daniel Paul were also arrested for their roles in the syndicate.

According to the PRO, “The FCID Annex expressed its appreciation to the movie industry players, particularly Toyin Abraham, Film One, Funke Akindele, and their teams, for their cooperation during the investigation. AIG Idowu Owohunwa, the AIG of FCID Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, assures the movie industry and the Nigeria Copyrights Commission of the department’s commitment to working together to eliminate criminal elements that threaten the survival of the Nigerian movie industry.”

“The FCID Annex remains dedicated to its mandate of investigating, detecting, and preventing crimes, and will continue to deploy intelligence-led policing to ensure a safer society for all, ” she noted.
