59th Bundesliga Season Kicks Off Today With Bayern Vs Mönchengladbach
The 59th Bundesliga season officially kicks off today with FC Bayern München travelling to face Matthias Ginter’s Borussia Mönchengladbach.
The reigning champions led by record-breaking Robert Lewandowski will be hoping to secure a win, starting their campaign for 10 consecutive titles with three points. The match will mark the 107th time these two teams have played in the Bundesliga, but it will be Julian Nagelsmann’s first league fixture at the helm of his new club.
Elsewhere in the league, RB Leipzig kick off their campaign away at FSV Mainz 05. Mainz managed to stay in the topflight last season thanks to some wizardry by head coach Bo Svensson. Borussia Dortmund’s campaign also begins at home on Saturday night, as they welcome Eintracht Frankfurt to the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. VfL Wolfsburg will also play host to VfL Bochum.
Each of these Champions League hopefuls will be looking to start their seasons off with a win, sending a powerful message to teams across Europe.
DFL Vice President Marketing Peer Naubert said: “The Bundesliga is the fastest growing football league in the world, in terms of interest and engagement.”
