World Environment Day: Zenith Bank Partners LAWMA, LASWA on Sustainability
Zenith Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to environmental sustainability with a two-phase clean-up exercise across Lagos State to commemorate the 2026 World Environment Day.
Held under the global theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future,” the initiative featured street and waterways sanitation exercises conducted in partnership with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA).

The first phase took place on June 3, with Zenith Bank employees undertaking a clean-up exercise along Ajose Adeogun Street in Victoria Island. Staff members cleared waste, engaged residents on proper waste disposal practices and promoted environmental responsibility within the community.

The second phase, held on June 4, focused on the Falomo waterways in Ikoyi, where the bank joined LAWMA and LASWA to remove marine debris and support efforts aimed at improving waterway cleanliness and strengthening climate resilience in Lagos.
Speaking on the initiative, the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank, Dame Dr. Adaora Umeoji, OON, said sustainability remains central to the bank’s operations.
“Clearing our streets and waterways is a practical reminder that protecting the environment is a shared responsibility. Through these exercises, we are taking deliberate action to preserve our communities, support climate action and inspire others to do the same,” she said.
According to her, Zenith Bank will continue to align its operations with global environmental standards while advancing sustainable development across Nigeria and its international markets.
The bank said its environmental initiatives form part of its broader Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, which includes investments in green projects, energy efficiency and community-focused programmes.
The efforts also support key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action.
