Wike Announces New FG Plans for Judges
The President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government has announced new plans for judges in Nigeria.
The FG revealed plans that budgetary provisions had been made to construct additional residential houses for FCT High Court judges to mitigate housing shortages and ensure all judicial officers are appropriately accommodated.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, said President Bola Tinubu remains committed to strengthening the judiciary by improving productivity, reducing delays, and safeguarding its independence.
Delivering his goodwill message at a special court session to mark the start of the 2025/2026 Legal Year of the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Monday, Wike stressed that “well-equipped court facilities, chambers and support infrastructure ensure that judicial work is conducted in a professional, safe and conducive environment.”

According to a statement by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, the minister revealed that the FCTA has, under the President’s directive, handed over the Certificate of Occupancy for the Supreme Court’s land and begun full perimeter fencing of the entire complex to prevent encroachment and strengthen security.
He described the development as “a swift, long-awaited intervention” that restores confidence in the nation’s apex court after years of neglect, adding that such confidence-building measures will ripple through the entire judicial system.

Wike went on to outline other interventions undertaken by the Tinubu administration through the FCTA, including the construction of secure and befitting residential quarters for Heads of Courts within the FCT, as well as the ongoing development of a new Magistrate Court Complex in Jabi District to improve access to justice and ease the load on existing courts.
Additional projects include staff quarters for the Nigerian Law School in the FCT, the design and construction of the Court of Appeal Abuja Division Complex, and new residences for justices of the National Industrial Court and the Federal High Court in Abuja.
He noted that the projects were conceived to directly support judicial officers in carrying out their duties effectively.
Wike added: “The reasoning of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is that providing comfortable and secure accommodation allows judges to focus entirely on the timely and efficient administration of justice, free from the distractions of inadequate living conditions.”
