Maritime Journalists Applaud New WCO Chair, CGC Adeniyi

The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists (NNMJ) has congratulated the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi on his election as the Chairperson of the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The NNMJ is the umbrella body of all maritime Journalists in Nigeria.

The NNMJ in a statement issued on Wednesday by its Chairman, Dele Aderibigbe and Secretary, Moses Ebosele, described Adeniyi’s election as “historic moment for Nigeria and Customs administration across the world”.

Adeniyi made history last Saturday, June 28th, 2025 in Brussels as the first Nigerian to head the 73-year-old organisation, which has 186 member countries and is the highest decision-making body in global Customs administration, lending credence to the meteoric rise of the Nigeria Customs Service under the CGC, Adewale Adeniyi.

He described the CGC Adeniyi as a great leader who consistently inspires others with the mindset of waking up the giant in them, quoting John Quincy Adams:
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader”.

The body called for continuous support of Adeniyi’s reform agenda by the Nigeria Customs which has repositioned the Service, making it to rival the NNPC as the second top revenue earner for the Country.

“On behalf of all Maritime Journalists in Nigeria, NNMJ congratulates CGC Adeniyi for bringing pride and honour to Nigeria”, said the statement.
