UNIPORT Honours Prince T.J.T. Tonye Princewill for Visionary Leadership, Service

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has conferred a distinguished honour on Prince T.J.T. Tonye Princewill — businessman, technocrat, and political leader — in recognition of his exemplary contributions to driving impactful conversations on and advancing governance, youth empowerment, and national development.

The honour was presented during the First International Conference on Advancing Politics and Governance for Sustainable Development, held from 21st to 23rd October 2025 at the university’s main campus in Rivers State.

Prince Princewill, who chaired the high-profile conference, was celebrated for his enduring commitment to reshaping Nigeria’s political discourse and inspiring a generation of leaders with modern, progressive ideas.

Professor Fidelis Allen, Director of the Centre for Politics and Governance at the University of Port Harcourt, described Prince Princewill as “a rare blend of intellect, innovation, and service whose example demonstrates that politics can be a platform for transformation and genuine leadership.”

University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association’s Board of Trustees, Prince Princewill has consistently championed initiatives that link academia, leadership, and development.

His advocacy for evidence-based governance and investment in human capital has positioned him among Nigeria’s leading voices for sustainable reform.

In his acceptance remarks, Prince Princewill expressed gratitude to the university’s management and conference organisers, noting that the recognition represented a call to deeper service.

“Nigeria’s future depends on how deliberately we invest in ideas and people. Conversations about leadership must move beyond personalities to principles that deliver tangible growth for our communities and our nation,,” he said.

Known widely as a bridge-builder between generations, Prince Princewill has earned respect for his pragmatic yet compassionate approach to leadership. His career — spanning business, politics, philanthropy, and social advocacy — reflects a rare combination of strategic thinking and heartfelt commitment to public good.

Beyond the university walls, his influence continues to resonate strongly. Recently, Prince Princewill was installed as Da-Ogo VI in the Kalabari Kingdom, a socio-cultural honour recognising his service and leadership within the community.

At his first general meeting as Da-Ogo and leader of the Queen Elebabene Group of Houses (Polodabo), held at the Da-Ogo Memorial Hall in Buguma City, the atmosphere was electric with celebration and pride.

Dignitaries and community leaders gathered to pay tribute to his humility, creativity, and inclusive vision for progress. Among them was King Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, who lauded Prince Princewill for his “tenacity, courage, and innovative leadership style,” describing him as a new generation leader committed to leaving a legacy of empowerment and unity.

Through his various initiatives, Prince Princewill continues to champion education, youth development, and entrepreneurship as pillars of social transformation.

His outreach programmes have provided mentorship, scholarships, and empowerment opportunities to young Nigerians, while his advocacy for transparent governance and technology-driven leadership continues to influence national conversations.

Observers note that his political journey stands out for its focus on solutions rather than rhetoric — a refreshing contrast to the traditional politics of division and promises without substance. His approach blends modern innovation with cultural rootedness, positioning him as part of a growing movement of Nigerian leaders determined to marry vision with results.

As he adds the University of Port Harcourt’s honour to his growing list of recognitions, Prince T.J.T. Tonye Princewill remains a symbol of what purposeful leadership can achieve when driven by intellect, integrity, and empathy.

His message is consistent: Nigeria’s greatness lies not in empty politicking but in leaders who think, build, and serve.
With his expanding influence across academic, political, and community circles, Prince Princewill continues to inspire many to believe that governance, when guided by clear values and innovative thinking, can truly deliver national renewal.
