THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Two people have died after a Toyota Camry saloon car plunged into the Lagos Lagoon from the 3rd Mainland Bridge in the early hours of Saturday, August 23, 2025.

The incident, which occurred inward Iyana Iworo, sparked a swift multi-agency response involving the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), the Marine Police, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS).

Local fishermen and divers also played a vital role in the search and rescue effort.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority confirmed that the vehicle carried two occupants.

The first victim, a woman identified only as Aisha, aged between 25 and 35, was recovered shortly after the accident. Her body was handed over to her family.

In a follow-up search, authorities discovered a second victim, Chado Daniel Danladi, 31, of Ikeja. He was identified as Aisha’s colleague. His body was later recovered and returned to his family.

The 3rd Mainland Bridge, the longest bridge in Nigeria and one of the busiest in Africa, has witnessed several fatal accidents in recent years, some of which have resulted in vehicles plunging into the lagoon.

Authorities have repeatedly called on motorists to exercise caution, particularly during early morning and late-night journeys when visibility and fatigue can affect drivers.
