Students Loan Bill: Youths Express Excitement, Urge President Tinubu to Ensure Transparency

By THECONSCIENCEng

Scores of Nigerian youths have expressed gratitude and excitement on the students loan bill signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the weekend.

The landmark bill which aims to provide interest-free loans for indigent Nigerian students will help more youths access tertiary education in the country.

A deep look into the Loan law shows that when it comes into effect numerous poor Nigerian students’ lives will surely be changed, and will get a most needed chance to pursue their ambitions of attending college without having to worry about financial problems.

Amongst others, the act will establish the Nigerian Education Bank, which will supervise and monitor the management of student loans in Nigeria and only students studying in higher institutions within Nigeria are eligible for the loan to provide payment of tuition fees alone.

In separate reactions to the development, prospective students of higher institution who are from poor homes have given kudos to the president on the bill passage, saying it’s the right step in the right direction.

The National Association of Polytechnic Students Comrade Anidi Samuel in a statement on his social media page said, “We are truly grateful for Mr President’s visionary decision to sign the Student Loan Bill into law. This remarkable step will create unprecedented opportunities for talented and deserving students from less privileged backgrounds, enabling them to fulfill their aspirations without the burden of financial constraints.

“Nigerian students in higher institutions of learning stand to gain more access to financial assistance with this legislation and the act provides for the establishment of the Nigerian Education Fund, domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from which qualified applicants can access education loans through the commercial banks in the country ” he noted.0668805446
