Nigeria Beat South Africa to Qualify for AFCON Final on Sunday
The Super Eagles of Nigeria edged out a resilient South African side during penalty shoot outs to qualify for the final match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations AFCON 2023 on Sunday 11th February, 2024.
The Eagles got the chance to compete again at AFCON final after waiting for 11 years.
Nigeria had scored a lone goal through a well taken William Troost Ekong penalty in the 67th minute before South Africa through Teboho Mokoena slotted home another spot kick in the 90th minute, resulting from Yussuf Al hassan’s tackle on Percy Tau in the Super Eagles goal keeper area, which also led to the cancellation of what Eagles thought was a second goal when Osimhen tapped in a low cross from Samuel Osayi Bright before the VAR cited Alhassan’s error.

Nigeria won with 4 to 2 goals.
With the victory, the Super Eagles will meet the host country, Ivory Coast which defeated DR Congo by a lone goal, for a final showdown on Sunday.
