Sketch2Finish Fashion Reality Show Kicks Off Auditions, Unveils BOI as Sponsor

By Bolaji Israel

Sketch2Finish, a groundbreaking Fashion Reality Show dedicated to highlighting not only models and designs but also the talented designers behind many captivating fashion creations, officially commenced its auditions for models and designers on Friday.

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the Bank of Industry (BOI) has been revealed as a sponsor of the innovative project.

Maryjane Chinwe Ejiofor, the Chief Executive Officer of Xquizit Cyn’jaaay Creations, the organizers of the show, announced these on Friday in Surulere, Lagos.

She emphasized that the event in its fifth edition is specifically designed to celebrate designers who will showcase their craftsmanship at its highest level, unveiling the intricate processes of their craft from inception to completion.

She explained: “The concept of Sketch2Finish arose from the desire to narrate a creative journey, highlighting the importance of the design process. Every design begins with a sketch—an idea that must be translated into a visual form. We created this reality show to illustrate the story of a design, from its initial sketch to the final product.”

Ejiofor announced mouth-watering prizes for the top three positions: the 1st prize winner will receive five million Naira (5,000,000 Naira), an Industrial Sewing Machine, and a one-year ambassadorial deal with a sponsor; the 2nd prize includes three million Naira (3,000,000 Naira), an Industrial Sewing Machine, and a six-month ambassadorial deal; and the 3rd prize offers two million Naira (2,000,000 Naira), an Industrial Sewing Machine, and a three-month ambassadorial deal.

She noted that the competition will feature 20 to 30 participants, each presenting designs that reflect various designs, cultures and styles. They will reside in the reality show house for two weeks, from November to December 2024.

Uniquely, the designers will also display the brands and sponsors’ logos, colours, and products in their runway presentations, creating a vibrant showcase of creativity.

Judging will be conducted by esteemed fashion veterans, including Maryjane Chinwe Ejiofor, Benlah Marshall, and Florence Neankwo, among others. Assessment criteria will encompass creativity, initiative, rigor, style, and overall presentation.

The best designs will be selected for the reality show, where winners will receive prizes that include financial grants for startups, essential equipment, and ambassadorial contracts. This platform not only recognizes talent in the fashion industry but also aims to identify the top three winners who will be celebrated at the show’s conclusion.

Ejiofor highlighted that the initiative stems from a desire to rebrand and redefine the perception of craftsmanship and fashion in an unprecedented manner. “This fashion show will not only allow designers to exhibit their creations but also to showcase their craftsmanship and creativity, effectively representing the companies and brands involved in the event,” she said.

Each designer will leverage their craft to promote the event’s partnering companies and sponsors, presenting their work from the initial sketch to the final product. Ejiofor noted, “This show seeks to promote craftsmanship and foster appreciation for creativity within the fashion industry while emphasizing Nigerian and African cultures through our innovative designs. It aims to connect people and brands in an increasingly competitive landscape, creating job opportunities and empowering the youth.”

The event represents much more than just fashion; it serves as a platform for fashion creatives to display their skills and for brands to collaborate within both national and international communities. “We will welcome designers and fashion enthusiasts from around the world to participate in this event,” she added.

“The Sketch2Finish concept originated from the Festac Fashion Show, where ‘sketch to finish’ was the central theme. We envisioned a project that would surpass the Festac Fashion Show, which has been ongoing since 2011 through four successful editions. Thus, we have transformed it into a reality show, marking a significant evolution in our journey. I am proud to share that my company just celebrated its 14th anniversary.”

The CEO expressed her fulfillment as a visionary, stating, “I want to make a statement to the world that designers are not merely creators of garments; they are individuals who deserve recognition. We must highlight the stories of fashion designers, showcasing the challenges and dedication that go into producing the garments people wear. The public should understand the struggles and passion behind each designer’s work.”

She attributes her perseverance amid socio-economic challenges to passion, consistency, determination, and focus. Through this program, young designers, fashion stylists, models, and other industry practitioners will receive mentorship from the organisers and seasoned professionals.

Ejiofor encouraged more designers to seize the opportunity to showcase their talents on a global stage.
