The police boss, while addressing journalists said three suspects: Fred Azeez Okuno, Lucky Idudu Michael, and Adedigba Segun, had been arrested by the police over the robbery and murder of Sanni.
Owohunwa said the police recovered one brand new pistol with three live ammunition, one Beretta pistol with three live ammunition, and one locally made pistol with six live cartridges from the suspects.
He added that six expended cartridges, military gear comprising a military camouflage vest, jungle hat, pistol hose and a red Honda CRV were also recovered from the suspects.
“Through painstaking intelligence and investigative activities which brought out the best in the capacity of Lagos Police Command, we have succeeded in arresting the syndicate of the robbery and murder.
“The three suspects directly involved in the robbery and murder were arrested with three firearms including the killer’s weapon were recovered,” the CP stated.
Commending the officers, Adejobi said: “Kudos to the lagos state police command for putting its resources together and painstakingly arrested the suspected armed robbers who killed the personal aide to Sen Olamilekan Yaayi in lagos recenthy.”
According to the FPRO, “When the incident occurred, there were many speculations, but now the police investigation has proven many speculations wrong as the men arrested are regular ex-convicts who have been to prisons severally, and robbed and incidentally killed him.
“They have confessed to the crime and many alike. They usually dress in military uniform to deceive their targets, stop the targets, and rob them.”
The spokesperson added, “We sympathise with the family of our late brother, Sanni Adeniyi. We will continue to discharge our duties as expected of us and do justice to all cases. Nigeria must be better.”
Speaking during the parade, the suspects, who confessed to the killing of the aide, said the act was mistakenly done.
One of the suspects, Lucky, who is an ex-inmate, said the slain aide was not their target, but he was stopped because he was driving a “Tokunbo” (imported fairly used car).
“I stopped the car because it had no number plate. I shot at him twice because he was shouting. I didn’t plan to shoot the man, the gun fired by itself,” Lucky said.
