Police Re-Arrest Omoyele Sowore After Bail
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Politician and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, has been re-arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Police shortly after appearing at the Kuje Magistrate Court on Friday.
THECONSCIENCE NG gathered that the former presidential candidate was taken into custody on a fresh charge, barely minutes after he concluded his court session.
Sowore had appeared in court alongside Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother of the detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as well as a former member of Kanu’s legal team and ten other defendants.
The group had earlier been granted bail by the court after meeting all conditions set by the magistrate.
According to the ruling, each defendant was granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000, with two sureties residing within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The sureties were also required to present valid identification and three years of tax clearance.
However, despite meeting the bail requirements, Sowore was reportedly re-arrested by police officers as he exited the court premises.
Eyewitnesses said the officers moved swiftly to whisk him away to the Kuje Prison, while the other defendants were allowed to leave.
As of press time, the reasons for his re-arrest and the details of the new charge had not been made public by the police.
