Police Inspector Allegedly Shoots Self Dead In Rivers

Police Arrest Cult, Murder Suspects Linked To DPO’s Death In Rivers

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that The Rivers Police Command says it has made key arrests in connection with cult-related killings in the Ahoada area of the state, including suspects linked to the murder of the late Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada Division, Bako Angbashim.

The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Octopus Tactical Unit following credible intelligence.

According to a statement issued by Rivers Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the first arrest was made on May 3, 2025, when police stormed a camp in Ikata community, Ahoada East Local Government Area.

The operation led to the arrest of one Lovegod Goodluck, identified as a known associate of the late 2Baba-led Iceland cult group. One locally made single-barrel gun and two live cartridges were also recovered during the operation.

A second suspect, identified as Precious Olumini, who had earlier escaped during the initial raid, was arrested in a follow-up operation on June 13, 2025.

According to the police, an English-made pump-action gun and a locally made pistol were recovered from him.

It added that during interrogation, both suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Iceland cult group, which has been linked to several violent incidents across the Ahoada-East axis of the oil-rich state.

The police said the suspects and recovered weapons are in their custody, and investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate. The command also stated that efforts are underway to recover more weapons used by the group.

Following the development, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga A. Adepoju, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

He urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement by providing timely and useful information to aid in the fight against violent crime.
