2027: Peter Obi Volunteers Unveils Nationwide Mobilisation Drive, Targets 10m New Voters
A campaign support organisation for the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, has launched a nationwide mobilisation initiative ahead of the 2027 general elections, pledging to strengthen grassroots participation and electoral integrity across the country.
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the group, known as Peter Obi Volunteers (also called The Volunteers) and operating under the slogan “New Ideas, New Nigeria!”, was officially unveiled in Abuja on Friday.

Speaking on the inauguration, the National Chairman of the organisation, Ogbuefi Chukwudile Okoye, said the movement was established to build widespread grassroots support for Obi and deepen political engagement, particularly in rural communities where voter apathy remains a challenge.

Okoye disclosed that the group is putting structures in place across all 774 local government areas of the country as part of its strategy to mobilise voters and expand political participation ahead of the polls.
He said the volunteers would focus on election monitoring and voter protection mechanisms to ensure that results recorded at polling units are accurately reflected in final declarations by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, membership of the organisation is open to all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation, gender, religion or ethnicity.
“The movement is for every Nigerian who desires credible leadership and a stronger democracy. We are committed to strengthening election monitoring and voter protection mechanisms to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process,” he said.
Okoye further revealed that the group aims to mobilise and register up to 10 million voters through its “10+ Project”, under which each volunteer is expected to facilitate the registration of at least 10 eligible voters.
He added that the initiative would galvanise grassroots communities to participate actively in the electoral process and boost voter turnout during the 2027 elections.
Speaking on his support for Obi, Okoye said he had known the former Anambra State governor for about four decades and could personally attest to his character.
“I have known Peter Obi for about 40 years. We grew up in the same area in Onitsha, and I can vouch for his integrity and credibility, which are impeccable,” he said.
Okoye also noted that he attended Christ the King College, Onitsha, the same institution attended by Obi, describing the former presidential candidate as a leader whose track record continues to inspire confidence among his supporters.
