Akume Inaugurates Olasupo as Member of NEITI, South West
Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has inaugurated Hon Abdul Jeleel Adekunle Olasupo as a member of the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).
The move was aimed towards promoting transparency and accountability in the extractive industry,
Olasupo will represent the South West region on the 6th National Stakeholders Working Group (NSWG) board.
During the inauguration ceremony held at the SGF’s office in Abuja, Akume highlighted the importance of Olasupo’s appointment, stating that it reflects President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering support for transparency and accountability in the management of Nigeria’s economic resources.

Akume emphasized that the Nigerian government remains fully committed to the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) and the positive impact it has had on the country’s oil, gas, and mining sectors.
Olasupo’s educational background and professional experience impressed the selection committee. He attended Jamatul Islamiyat Primary School in Patey Lagos before joining Jubril Martins Memorial Grammar School III, now known as Iponri Grammar School, in Lagos.

He furthered his education at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York, and later pursued a post-graduate course at the State University at Albany.
Currently, Olasupo works as a Miscellaneous Tax Auditor at the Capital Region Office (CRO) of the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany, United States. Prior to this, he served as a Revenue Consultant to various Lagos Government entities and Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) in Lagos State.
Olasupo is also recognized as one of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mentees and a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party in Lagos.
In his congratulatory message to the newly inaugurated NEITI board members, Akume reiterated President Tinubu’s careful selection process, which was based on their diverse competencies, skills, knowledge, integrity, and proven track record of service.
He emphasized Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to implementing the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in the oil, gas, and mining industries.
As members of the board, their primary responsibility is to provide strategic policy direction and oversight to support NEITI management. Akume urged the board to ensure the smooth implementation of NEITI’s activities without any distractions or interference.
The appointment of Olasupo and the other distinguished board members reaffirms Nigeria’s dedication to promoting transparency, accountability, and responsible management of its extractive industries.
The nation’s commitment to the EITI process is a significant step towards achieving sustainable development and maximizing the benefits of Nigeria’s natural resources.
