Okpella Group Applauds Leadership Changes, Calls for Peace, Tradition

Okpella Group Applauds Leadership Changes, Calls for Peace, Tradition

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Ukhomuyio Concerned Citizens in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, have commended the redeployment of Hon. Lucky Eseigbe from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, describing it as a reflection of the Governor’s commitment to justice, competence, and responsiveness to the people’s concerns.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group said Eseigbe’s removal was a welcome decision that reaffirmed the Governor’s sensitivity to public opinion and willingness to correct administrative missteps.

According to the group, Eseigbe’s tenure allegedly undermined the community’s traditional system, and his redeployment should serve as an opportunity to rebuild his personal and professional reputation.

They urged him to seek reconciliation with ancestors for his alleged role in distorting the community’s rich heritage.

They further advised the commissioner to always prioritise public interest and the Governor’s vision above personal ambition or external influence, stressing that “it is wiser to sacrifice self-interest for the greater good.”

Reiterating their opposition to the appointment of Mr. Mike Sado as the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, the Ukhomuyio Concerned Citizens applauded the unity displayed by indigenes in defending their customs and heritage.

“We are grateful to our spiritual heads — the Itsogwas and Igbidegwas — the Ukhomuyio Council of Village Heads, and our illustrious sons and daughters both home and abroad for standing together in solidarity. Tradition remains the strongest bond that unites our people,” the statement read.

The group emphasised that the process of selecting a traditional ruler must strictly follow Okpella’s established customs, warning against any manipulation by “a few self-serving individuals outside Ukhomuyio.”

They also thanked the Governor for approving the recruitment of new teachers in Okpella, describing the gesture as evidence of his administration’s commitment to education and community development.

In conclusion, the Ukhomuyio Concerned Citizens appealed to the Governor to restore lasting peace to Okpella by revoking Mr. Sado’s appointment and returning the selection process to the Ukhomuyio, which they maintain is next in line to produce the Okuokpellagbe according to tradition.
