NELFUND Resumes Payments After Fixing Delays
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has resumed disbursement of students’ upkeep allowances following the resolution of delays linked to digital-only banking platforms.
In a statement released on Friday, the Fund’s Director of Corporate Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, confirmed that over 3,600 affected students have now received their backlog of payments after updating their bank account information on the NELFUND portal.
The students had initially registered using digital wallet accounts, which proved incompatible with the Fund’s disbursement process. Oluwatuyi said the recent development follows targeted interventions to ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive their funds through conventional commercial bank accounts.
“We appreciate the patience and understanding of all affected students during this period,” she said. “Your resilience and cooperation have made this progress possible.”
Oluwatuyi also outlined the next steps for students who are yet to receive their allowances. Those still using digital-only banking services are advised to raise a support ticket on the official NELFUND portal to request access to update their bank details. Alternatively, institutions’ IT offices can compile and forward unresolved cases to NELFUND for further action.
According to the Fund, this move is part of a broader effort to streamline its payment system and improve delivery of services to students. Oluwatuyi reiterated NELFUND’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible student is excluded from receiving financial support.
“We urge all students to continue engaging only through official NELFUND channels and to assist peers who may need help navigating the update process,” she added.
The Fund’s maintenance disbursement forms a key part of its mandate to support students in tertiary institutions through accessible and sustainable financial aid.
