LAWMA Completes Rehabilitation of Olusosun Dumpsite Ahead of Rainy Season
In preparation for the upcoming rainy season, the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has successfully completed the rehabilitation of the Olusosun dumpsite. This crucial undertaking aims to ensure smooth waste disposal operations throughout the state.
Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, announced this milestone in a statement released on Thursday. He explained that the rehabilitation efforts were focused on enhancing operational efficiency, particularly in anticipation of the challenges posed by heavy rainfall.
The primary objective of the Olusosun dumpsite rehabilitation is to enable waste disposal trucks to navigate the site seamlessly, even in adverse weather conditions. Dr. Gbadegesin emphasized that this would address logistical challenges that often arise during heavy rainfall.
In addition to the completed maintenance work, LAWMA is determined to improve turnaround times for waste disposal trucks by enhancing operational efficiency. This will significantly reduce queue times, resulting in faster and more effective waste collection services.
Dr. Gbadegesin stressed that environmental sustainability is a top priority for LAWMA. He called on residents to actively participate in responsible waste disposal practices to safeguard the environment. Dumping waste in drains, especially during the rainy season, can disrupt the drainage system and pose serious environmental risks. Residents are encouraged to engage accredited Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators for their waste disposal needs, as supporting licensed operators contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment for all.
The Managing Director emphasized the importance of residents familiarizing themselves with their designated PSP operators, who play a crucial role in waste management at the local level. By understanding and engaging with these operators, residents can ensure efficient and effective waste disposal services in their communities.
To facilitate this process, LAWMA will publish detailed PSP contacts for all areas in the state. This initiative aims to empower residents to take ownership of waste management practices in their neighborhoods, ultimately contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.
LAWMA remains committed to its mission of providing excellent waste management services, and the completion of the Olusosun dumpsite rehabilitation is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
