LAUTECH Acknowledges ₦1.47b NELFUND Disbursement
THECONSCIENCE NG reports the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has formally acknowledged the receipt of over ₦1.47 billion disbursed by the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support its students.
In a letter dated August 13, 2025, and addressed to the Managing Director of NELFUND, the institution confirmed that 6,076 students benefited from the scheme, with the funds received on July 24, 2025. The total sum disbursed stood at ₦1,475,305,300.
The Registrar, Mrs Olayinka O. Balogun, who signed the letter on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Professor R.O. Rom Kalilu, commended the initiative, describing it as a significant relief for students struggling to meet financial obligations.
“We commend your efforts aimed at providing financial assistance to indigent students, in alignment with the Federal Government’s goal of increasing access to higher education,” the university stated.
According to the letter, the loan has already eased the payment of fees for the beneficiaries, while also demonstrating the government’s commitment to expanding access to tertiary education in Nigeria. The Registrar further praised NELFUND for the efficient processing and disbursement of the funds.
The education loan scheme, launched earlier in 2024, was designed to reduce financial barriers for Nigerian students and promote inclusive higher education. LAUTECH is among the growing list of institutions that have so far confirmed access to the funds, a development widely welcomed by students and parents.
“This gesture has brought significant relief to our students and facilitated the continuation of their academic pursuits,” Mrs Balogun said.
