Lagos Police Arrest Prime Suspect In Murder Of 65-Year-Old Woman
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that detectives from the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested the prime suspect in connection with the murder of 65-year-old Jane Okoye.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the tragic incident occurred on April 2, 2025, in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect, Abubakar Iliyasu, allegedly forced his way into the victim’s residence and escaped with her Toyota Sienna vehicle. Okoye was found unconscious at the scene and later died at a medical facility.
Hundeyin stated that the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Yaba, where homicide detectives launched a discreet investigation using both intelligence and technical resources.
Their efforts led to the arrest of Iliyasu in Ankpa, Kogi State. The stolen vehicle was recovered in good condition and is being held as evidence.
The suspect is currently in custody at the SCID, Yaba, where he is assisting with ongoing investigations.
Reacting to the development, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured the public that the suspect would face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
