Portable Sentenced To 3 Months Imprisonment
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that controversial street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months in prison by the Ogun State Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo. However, the court granted him an option to pay a fine of ₦30,000 in lieu of serving the jail term.
The sentencing followed his conviction on charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. Portable was arrested in March 2023 after allegedly attacking a police inspector and obstructing officers during an attempt to serve him an arrest warrant.
According to Police Prosecutor Inspector Olumide Awoleke, the offences occurred on November 18, 2022, around 11:00 a.m. at Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.
The charges included conspiracy to commit assault, unlawful physical assault on police officer Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi, and theft of musical equipment, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, Studio 2 interface cable, and an AKG P420 condenser microphone.
Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo found Portable guilty on the first two counts. He sentenced the singer to one month in prison with an option of a ₦10,000 fine for Count 1, and two months in prison with an option of a ₦20,000 fine for Count 2.
The court did not deliver a conviction on the theft charge.
