Robbery: KWASU Beefs Up Security To Forestall Further Attacks
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that Following recent robbery attacks on some private hostels in Malete, the management of Kwara State University (KWASU) has announced new security measures to protect students and restore peace within the host community.
In a statement issued by the institution’s Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee, on Sunday the university disclosed that a joint patrol team comprising operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and community policing units has been deployed across Malete to prevent further criminal activities.
The statement noted that the management is working with relevant stakeholders to address the growing concerns over students’ safety, particularly those residing off-campus.

“A stakeholders’ meeting will be convened shortly to find a lasting solution to the incessant robbery disturbing the peace of KWASU students,” the statement said.
Dr. Sallee urged all students to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the presence of security agents across the community is intended to ensure their safety and enable them to go about their lawful activities without fear.
She cautioned students against taking the law into their hands, emphasizing that the university and relevant authorities are taking the situation seriously and have begun implementing proactive security measures.
KWASU’s Malete campus has in recent weeks witnessed a spate of armed robberies in off-campus lodges, sparking fear and agitation among students and residents.
