Customs to Investigate Officers Conduct over Viral Video Incident
The Seme Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has vowed to investigate a viral video showing officers allegedly maltreating civilians.
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the Command has vowed to take decisive action against any officers found responsible.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Hussaini Abdullahi, Customs Area Comptroller Mr. Kayode Kolade announced the immediate withdrawal of the implicated officers for interrogation. This step, the statement said, is to ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are taken.
Kolade assured the public that the results of the investigation would be made available once concluded, expressing deep empathy for the affected individuals and condemning the officers’ actions as inconsistent with the values and standards of the Service.
The Command also urged stakeholders and the public along the Lagos-Abidjan Corridor to continue their lawful activities and reaffirmed its commitment to creating a safe environment for legitimate trade.
