INEC Alerts Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment Scheme

THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has alerted Nigerians, on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, issuing a warning about a fake recruitment advertisement circulating on social media. The scam claims that INEC is recruiting for various positions and directs applicants to a fraudulent website, to submit their details.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, the electoral body dismissed the circulating notice, which falsely claims that INEC is currently recruiting for various positions.

INEC emphasizes that it does not operate any website link and is not currently hiring applicants. As such, the public is being alerted to disregard any further information from such unauthorized and illegal platforms.

“Our attention has been drawn to a fake advertorial currently circulating on social media, giving the impression that the Independent National Electoral Commission is recruiting for various positions.

“The impostor behind this illicit recruitment exercise also asked would-be respondents to log on to an equally fake portal – inecrecruitment.com to complete their applications. But INEC does not have any such portal,” the statement read.

INEC made it clear that it is not conducting any recruitment exercise at the moment, urging the public not to fall prey to the scam.

“The commission hereby calls on the public to disregard this fraudulent call for applications. The commission IS NOT recruiting. Do not fall victim to the antics of criminal elements,” the statement continued.

Nevertheless, the commission attributes the fake advert to criminal elements attempting to defraud unsuspecting citizens. So, INEC is here by calling the public to disassociate from the false information.

However, in a bid to relieve the public of the social mess and bastardization, INEC advises Nigerians to rely strictly on its official website and verified communication channels for authentic information regarding electoral processes or staff recruitment.

In addition, INEC has previously cautioned the public about fake employment merchants and racketeers who open fake employment websites and issue fake employment letters purporting to act on behalf of the commission.
