Imo Police Sanctions Officers Over Assault

According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Okoye Henry, an orderly room trial was conducted in line with Nigeria Police Force disciplinary procedures. Sergeant Anayo Ekezie was found guilty of using a smoke gunner during the assault and has been demoted to the rank of Corporal. Inspectors Obongha and Okereke received severe reprimands for failing to properly supervise the incident.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, condemned the officers’ actions, labeling them a violation of the Force’s Code of Conduct and human rights principles. He reaffirmed the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and assured the public of continued accountability.

The Command has urged members of the public to report any incidents of police abuse through the Complaints Response Unit (CRU), X-Squad Unit, or via these numbers: 08033424051, 08148024755. The statement emphasized the Command’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
