How We Raised N20bn For National Library – Remi Tinubu
THECONSCIENCE NG reports that the Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has disclosed that about N20 billion has so far been realised towards the completion of the National Library project.
Addressing State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, the First Lady, who had earlier urged her admirers to donate their gifts meant for her 65th birthday celebration to the completion of the National Library, dismissed claims that her gesture had political undertones.
“I want to clear the air about some people saying it has a political undertone. What is wrong with doing well?” she asked.
The First Lady stated that the fund is coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Education under the “Oluremi at 65 Education Fund”.
On why she chose the completion of the National Library instead of receiving gifts, cakes and adverts for her birthday, Mrs Tinubu said as a young person growing up, the library played a great role in shaping her person and she was not happy that the National Library which was initiated during the Shehu Shagari administration was still incomplete up till today.
She added that the completion of the National Library will be a great birthday gift for her, noting that she was a member of the Senate Committee on Education while she was in the Senate, and the education ministry was not able to build the National Library.
She urged Nigerians to emulate the words of the former American President who said citizens should not think of what the country can do for them, but what they can do for their country.
Mrs Tinubu hinted that more donations are still coming in.
