Following protracted ego and legal battles which have kept stakeholders and concerned people of conscience on the edges of their seats, the highly revered Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi ll has been dethroned by the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje-led Kano State government.
The cerebral and outspoken first class monarch was dethroned over total insubordination including disrespect to the office of the governor and other government agencies.
The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, in a press statement said the removal was with immediate effect. He said the emir’s action violated the part 3 section A-E of Kano state law, hence the removal.
The statement added: “The Emir of Kano is in total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the state Governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programs organised by the Government without any lawful justification which amount to total insubordination. “
He said the removal was in line with consultation with relevant stakeholders and a new emir would be announced in due course. He urged Kano people to remain calm and go about their normal businesses.
