COVID-19: Lagos Says Another Lockdown Possible, Issues Fresh Order to Public Servants in Lagos
The Lagos State government has hinted of another possible statewide lockdown, as it extended the stay-at- home order for public servants in Lagos on levels 14 and below to January 18, 2021 to stem the tide of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The state government gave this indication in its work resumption directives and statements to workers in the state.
A statement by Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola to public servants in Lagos noted that the directive for public servants on levels 14 and below to resume January 18, excludes staff on essential duties as well as first responders, urging all public servants to stay safe and ensure continued adherence to all Covid-19 protocols in order to rid the state of the pandemic.
Speaking further during the virtual 2021 First Work Day Inter-Religious Prayer Session for all Public Servants in Lagos via Zoom platform, on Monday, Muri-Okunola enjoined all Public Servants in the state to rededicate themselves to quality service delivery and adhere strictly to personal safety protocols as prescribed by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC and the Lagos State Ministry of Health.
The Lagos state HoS explained that, “The reality today, unfortunately, is that the Covid-19 pandemic is not just still very much with us, but the possibility of another lockdown looms very large, the ultimate determination of which would be based on the realities of the next few weeks.
He revealed: “Going forward, it is important to emphasize that we are not yet out of the woods. We can not yet afford to let our guards down.
It is not yet Uhuru and much yet still needs to be accomplished. It is in this regards that the government has further strengthened arrangements for testing, treatment and enforcement of protocols aimed at curtailing the spread of the disease. ”
